SOME HISTORY

third turn and the first Polish post-war construction of two-seater glider SZD-9a is the "Stork". Its predecessors were the pre-1939 structures, gliders "ITS" and "The Seagull." Lack of high-performance two-seater glider somehow forced to develop Gliding Works of structure, because the Polish were saturated jednomiejscowymi aeroclubs "Flies-ter", and the international competition it was difficult to compete in the class of two-seater gliders in the former German school, "Crane." The prototype of "Stork" (SP-1217, nr.fabr 071) first flew March 10, 1952 r, and its designers were engineers Marian Wasilewski, Roman and Justin Zatwarnicki Sandauer. The glider was characterized by a number of innovative and interesting design solutions which place him in a row the world's most modern gliders: simple wolnonośne wings with a negative slant, comfortable cabin with seats in tandem enclosed spacious saloon giving excellent visibility, especially from the front cab, steel truss in the central part of the hull node representing the mounting wings and drive components, easy assembly and disassembly. For the series, after the factory tests, a few months later came the refined version of SZD-9a. In relation to the second prototype of the SZD-9-2 (SP-1218) introduced many changes and improvements: stiffer, rejected an emergency front-door limousine, a new adjustable pedals in front of the cabin, the security indicator halves of split tail, wing spars thinner, more secure lock brakes locked aerodynamic reduced forces on stacked, moved to the rear wheel chassis reduces the force needed to lift the tail, above all, by changing the wedge angle of achievement of the perfection of the wing 26 of the 21 existing units. Collection of operating experience has allowed the introduction of further improvements and modified versions were created 1B (with increased tail surface height), 1C (a reduced taper of the wings, tail height was used unshared and trimmer, and a new rear skid), 1D (larger wheel chassis size 350x135) And the last the most serious, was to adapt the "Stork" to the role of the glider school (inexorable time has taken its toll.) 1E is a version of the prototype, bearing signs of SP-2506 (rebuilt from Stork nr.fabr 1D: F-873) flew in the first half of 1967, prototype (received a new number. Pos P-387) still retains the geometry of 1D version of the characteristic rounded rudders and wing tips and visible at first glance, innovation was a two-part windows, no existing fixed windscreen, and the trailing link landing gear with long rubber cushion. The rounded ends of the wings and tail changed soon the simple (simplified technology), and a change in equipment cabins. In this form, the glider began to substitute for rubbing the "Heron" and the next day laminate "Owl" is a basic glider school. At Stork realized some interesting ideas constructors: a modification involving the performance polepszającą building krokodylowych valves, ballast tanks, reinforced chassis and a new array of instruments (Stork Z), and the use of four engines to power the pulse of about 6 kg each built in pairs on the wings, as an alternative to take-off at the lobby for the plane (Stork Pulse) This idea, however, did not work and was abandoned. Ideal for those times performance glider yielded several great feats: world record of Henry Zydorczak (E. Oles passenger) of the triangle 200 km - the result of 66.05 km / h-back docel 543.5 km (Ratusinski - Maciejewski) docel 540 km (Majewska - Raze), the triangle 100 km - speed 109 km / h (Kluk-Wyźanowski) and 76.19 km / h (Majewska-Raze), 200 km triangle-speed 66.55 km / h (Majewska-Adamczyk) Triangle 300 km-speed 61.72 km / h (Bajewska-Tomala). The production branch of the Stork Gliding in Jeżowie Sudeckim ended in 1976. Almost half of production exported to 27 countries worldwide.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

Two-trainer sailplane of wooden construction, with fixed landing gear and tail classic.

  • Hull: elliptical cross section, construction póskorupowej sklejkowym coated, and cover the indoor elements nierozwijalnymi polyester laminate. (Go wing-fuselage, dorsal fin, the front of hull). Reared in the wheel chassis mounted rocker 350x135 two long rubber cushion, in addition to metal back with rubber shock absorber krążkowym, Birch cab outside the amortized inner tube in the cover tarpaulin. Limousine-piece, front opening on the right side, with the possibility of a crash dump. Back moved away to the rear.
  • Wing: bipartite with trapezoidal contour, double-girder, with the caisson dwuobwodowym indoor plywood, in part zadźwigarowej covered with canvas. Lotka divided suspended with five points, driven in two, the drive wire. Airbrakes plate, pull the upper and lower surface, coupled with the brake wheel drive wire.
  • tail: classic dolnokrzyźowym in the system. Elevators and the direction of the canvas covered, plywood fins, without the balance of mass, drives wire.
  • Equipment: standard - speedometer PR-250s, W-12s altimeter, variometer WRs-5 with compensator KWEC-2, variometer WRs-30, turn EZS-3 and KI-13A compass. The few copies with an array of instruments in the second cabin (speedometer, variometer, altimeter and the turn indicator). Glider adapted for mounting an oxygen apparatus and lamps for night flights. Tow hooks front, and towed to fly lower, to take off for winch and tow rope off the rubber. Since the mid-70's "Storks" is equipped with VHF radios type RS-6101.
  • Painting: earlier versions (1A-1D) nitro enamels were painted cream color. The color blue: lane running along both sides of the hull, a metal strip on the limos and the windscreen, stylized silhouette of a stork in flight under the front cabin and the wing tips, tail and string SZD-9 bis "STORK" on the upper part of the ballast direction. In half the distance between the wing and tail, and on the bottom surface of the left and the upper surface of the right wing of the black characters rejestracyjne.Wersja 1E and renovated since the mid-seventies Storks 1D painted in white polyurethane enamel. Decorative elements (belt along kaduba broken into a cabin on the shape of lightning) and warning (wingtips, tail, front fuselage) in red. Registration marks and the words underneath the cab black stork.
